Professional Plantation Shutter Fitting, Removal and Refitting

We fit plantation shutters you already own, including online orders, ex-display sets and inherited shutters. We also remove and protect existing shutters before replacement-window or decorating work, then assess the completed opening before any refit is confirmed. The person who surveys the opening is involved in the fitting.

Can you fit shutters I already own?

Yes. We fit compatible plantation shutters you already own, whether they came from an online supplier, showroom, ex-display set, inheritance or another home. Before quoting, we compare the complete frame, panels and hardware with the measured opening, identify missing or incompatible parts and explain whether fitting or limited adaptation is practical.

Can you remove and refit shutters around replacement-window work?

Yes. We can define the removal, transport and protected storage scope before replacement-window or decorating work begins, then return when the reveal, plaster, trim, sill and sealant are complete. Refitting is confirmed only after the labelled shutter set and completed opening pass the final fixing, handle, vent and panel-movement checks.

Which customer-owned shutters do we fit?

We assess the following openings and existing shutter sets. New made-to-measure supply remains a separate Shutters Design service.

  • Bays, awkward and period windows: we assess every section of a bay together and check angles, fixing surfaces, handles and panel clearance before accepting compatible customer-owned shutters.

  • Supported shutter layouts: full-height, tier-on-tier, cafe-style and tracked systems when the supplied frames, panels and hardware suit the opening.

  • Shutters you supply: bought elsewhere, ex-display or moved from another home. No purchase from us is required for fitting-only work.

  • A previous fit put right: panels that were left crooked, gappy or badly packed by someone else, re-hung and squared up.

What do we check before fitting?

A fitting assessment checks the complete supplied assembly, measured opening, fixing surface and operating clearance before the job is confirmed. Frame sections, panels and hardware must work together, while louvres and panels must clear handles, vents, sills, radiators and furniture through their normal movement.

  • Complete supplied assembly: every frame section, panel, hinge, catch, magnet and specified fixing must be present. Missing parts are identified before a fitting date is agreed.

  • Opening dimensions and frame layout: we compare measured width, height, squareness, posts and returns with the assembled shutter dimensions rather than relying on one headline measurement.

  • Sound fixing surface: the reveal, plaster, trim, tiles or window frame must support the supplied shutter frame in a level position without distortion.

  • Operating clearance: panels and louvres must clear handles, vents, sills, radiators and furniture through normal opening, closing and resting positions.

Need a brand-new shutter set?

Shutters Design handles every completely new made-to-measure shutter enquiry, including the survey, material and style choice, supply and fitting. Completely new made-to-measure shutters have a 10-year personal guarantee. Shutter Installation fits, removes, refits, repairs and restores compatible shutters you already own, including replacement parts for an existing shutter system.

How a fitting works

Customer-owned shutter fitting moves from a measured compatibility survey to an itemised quote, fitting and final movement checks. The supplied set is not accepted from headline dimensions alone. The job-specific schedule is confirmed with the quote, while any completely new made-to-measure order passes to Shutters Design.

  1. 01

    Free survey

We measure the opening, inspect the supplied shutters and check the frame, hardware and operating clearance. The person who surveys the job is involved in the fitting.

  2. 02

    Quote

An itemised, no-obligation quote, usually within a day or two. If you're supplying the shutters, we quote fitting only.

  3. 03

    Fitting day

Straightforward fitting takes around 60 to 90 minutes per window or 2 to 4 hours per room. A 6 to 10-window job is normally completed in one day. We confirm the expected time for bays, tracked systems, difficult access and adaptation work with the quote.

  4. 04

    Final checks

We check the fitted panels and louvres in use, including clearance around window handles and the space for the panels to open. The final check covers the complete frame and panel arrangement.

What fitting costs

Plantation shutter fitting is quoted against the supplied set, number and type of openings, bay or tracked layout, access and any agreed adaptation. No generic price is inferred from one panel or room. The free survey confirms the exact fit-only scope and fixed price before work starts.

See the worked bay-refit example for a dated job with its own size and scope, not a rate for every fitting.
