Professional Plantation Shutter Fitting, Removal and Refitting
We fit new plantation shutters bought from another supplier for the intended window. We also remove and refit existing shutters around replacement-window or decorating work, checking the completed opening before confirming reuse. The person who surveys the opening is involved in the fitting.
Can you fit shutters I already own?
Yes. We assess compatible shutters you supply, including new orders from another supplier. Before quoting, we check the complete set against the intended opening and identify anything missing or unsuitable. We explain whether fitting or a limited adaptation is practical.
Can you remove and refit shutters around replacement-window work?
Yes. Plan the removal before window or decorating work starts, and agree who will move, protect and store the shutters and complete the surrounding finishes. We assess the completed opening before confirming whether the existing set can return and work properly.
Which customer-owned shutters do we fit?
We assess the following openings and existing shutter sets. New made-to-measure supply remains a separate Shutters Design service.
Bays, awkward and period windows: we assess every section of a bay together and check angles, fixing surfaces, handles and panel clearance before accepting compatible customer-owned shutters.
Supported shutter layouts: full-height, tier-on-tier, cafe-style and tracked systems when the supplied frames, panels and hardware suit the opening.
Shutters you supply: new shutters bought from another supplier for the intended window. No purchase from us is required for fitting-only work.
A previous fit put right: panels that were left crooked, gappy or badly packed by someone else, re-hung and squared up.
What do we check before fitting?
A fitting assessment checks the complete supplied assembly, measured opening, fixing surface and operating clearance before the job is confirmed. Frame sections, panels and hardware must work together, while louvres and panels must clear handles, vents, sills, radiators and furniture through their normal movement.
Complete supplied assembly: we check the delivered set against the supplier's information and identify anything missing or unsuitable before confirming fitting.
Opening dimensions and frame layout: we compare measured width, height, squareness, posts and returns with the assembled shutter dimensions rather than relying on one headline measurement.
Sound fixing surface: the reveal, plaster, trim, tiles or window frame must support the supplied shutter frame in a level position without distortion.
Operating clearance: panels and louvres must clear handles, vents, sills, radiators and furniture through normal opening, closing and resting positions.

How a fitting works
Customer-owned shutter fitting moves from a measured compatibility survey to an itemised quote, fitting and final movement checks. The supplied set is not accepted from headline dimensions alone. The job-specific schedule is confirmed with the quote, while any completely new made-to-measure order passes to Shutters Design.

Free survey
We measure the opening, inspect the supplied shutters and check the frame, hardware and operating clearance. The person who surveys the job is involved in the fitting.

Quote
We usually provide an itemised, no-obligation quote the same day or the next day after assessment. If you supply the shutters, we quote for fitting them.

Fitting day
Straightforward fitting takes around 60 to 90 minutes per window or 2 to 4 hours per room. A 6 to 10-window job is normally completed in one day. We confirm the expected time for bays, tracked systems, difficult access and adaptation work with the quote.

Final checks
We check the fitted panels and louvres in use, including clearance around window handles and the space for the panels to open. The final check covers the complete frame and panel arrangement.
What fitting costs
Fitting-only prices are £100 for a sash window, £200 for a small bay and £300 for a larger bay. You supply the shutters. These prices include VAT, parts, labour and fitting, with no separate call-out or travel charge. Multi-window work and any additional requirements are quoted for the agreed job. Removal and later refitting is a separate service.

Supplier drawings and fitting instructions are strongly recommended because they show the intended frame order, hardware and fixing method. If they are unavailable, the customer-owned shutter fitting guide explains which labelled photographs and dimensions to send for assessment.
Yes. We can remove existing blinds or curtains as part of the agreed fitting work. We confirm what needs removing during the survey so the scope is included in the quote.
Speak to the shutter fitter before you finalise the new windows and work dates. Our removal and refitting guide sets out the changes to record and the practical arrangements to agree with the trades involved.
We explain which dimension, frame, fixing surface, hardware or clearance issue prevents a dependable fit. Limited adaptation is considered only when the complete assembly can remain secure, level and usable; otherwise fitting is declined.
